Thrice-crowned NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
His teammate landed on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly fell to the ground grabbing his leg.
The veteran player, who is leading the league this season in rebounds and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the setback.
He will have an MRI scan on the following day to determine the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, he understood there was a problem," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as special as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, right now, I am more worried about him personally and the frustration of going through something like that."
