The Three Lions to Begin Euro 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they attain the expected passage for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s match since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the England side for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their round of 16 match would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Protest

The tournament was launched at an event in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the host FAs were heckled as they approached the location by around fifty protesters, who urged Israel to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were raised with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will include the Dragons if they qualify.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be implemented for European club finals from next season, will appeal to families and help engage a wider spectrum of viewers.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.

Locations and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a tournament for the fans and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its passion and capacity to bring people together.”

More than three million passes, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are expected to be offered to fans.
