A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The effort aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded in the wake of a solidarity show held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The single showcases a mix of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a figure said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
