As he approaches his six-year milestone as manager, Mikel Arteta has made it clear that his future at Arsenal is directly connected to achieving success.

Arteta was appointed on December 20th, 2019 and promptly led the team to an FA Cup victory a short time later. However, that initial silverware remains his only major honor after taking over from Unai Emery.

“Yes,” the manager said when questioned about his future past 2027. “But it’s about today. And a lot of things have to happen in the coming months as well to earn the right.”

This weekend sees the six-year milestone with a game facing Everton, the very same club Arsenal played just after his role was made public.

Present Challenges

Given that chasing Manchester City taking on West Ham earlier in the day, Arsenal could be displaced top spot in the Premier League for the first time. This situation arises despite Arteta managing a squad that has endured over 100 injuries since the start of last season.

He stated further, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from the hierarchy, while singling out the players' commitment as most crucial. “In the final analysis, the critical component are those players... During my tenure, I’ve seen just players with a standard of focus, desire to learn and dedicate themselves to the team.”

Injury Concerns

Arsenal approaches the weekend fixture managing an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been ruled out with a muscle problem that is expected to sideline him for several weeks.

Regardless of the fitness woes and the high-stakes environment, Arteta feels the club's “focus and dialogue” are profoundly distinct from when he initially took over.

The manager referenced the record-breaking achievements as proof they are close. “Examine the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still have yet to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the caliber we've reached.”

Arteta concluded, “That is a level that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And we want to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
