LA Battles Historic Heat Only Days Following Major Winter Storm.

After enduring torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing abnormally high conditions for this time of year.

Record-Setting Readings

On Friday midday, the temperature climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, per data from weather officials. This exceeds the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded in 2025.

"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on NWS charts for the region.

Public Health Alerts

The weather service cautioned that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations included:

• Keeping well-hydrated.
• Avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Not leaving anyone unattended in a car.

An Extreme Shift

This sharp rise in mercury comes on the heels of a intense winter storm that pummeled the region earlier in the week. That system delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, leading to flash flood warnings for many residents.

Weekend Outlook

The outlook suggests some relief will arrive. Readings were forecast to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by overnight.

Additional areas that experienced the 90-degree mark were Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to see the high 80s.

For the weekend, downtown LA can see weather in the eighties, with cooler weather on tap for the start of March.
