Citizens have assembled throughout the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions continued in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are seen as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled state commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still were held throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of people killed in the Hamas attack was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations indicated that an evening round of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The official explained the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, because of disagreements over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He added that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet produce any significant progress," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • After-conflict management of the region

Public Feeling

In the city's public square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling endured the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and dozens more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No location appears as home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will be secure."

"When we see everybody home again, we can feel relief again. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be alive.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to conclude in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the location of the music event, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the heavy Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"Once the evening falls, the anxiety comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, holding each other, notably my youngest child who places his face on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we look at the news to see the situation. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of half dozen people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis reported another two fatalities had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli forces while seeking assistance to the south region, medics said.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
