A standout among Avatar: The Last Airbender's most beloved installments is honored with an exclusive MTG special card drop.

Ordinarily, clip shows face criticism from viewers as a pointless diversion, or sometimes viewed as a necessity in television in the era of episodic releases. This wasn't always the situation, but Avatar: The Last Airbender proved it through "The Ember Island Players," a popular segment from its final season which is now granted a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release.

Highlights about the Secret Lair

The complete Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender collection was revealed earlier this month. Containing five Secret Lairs, and although a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly funny homage to Avatar's best background character, the other collections feel a bit less imaginative, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."

Drawing from episode 17 from season 3 of the beloved series, this collector's drop includes the following cards:

Why this segment is special

Fans of the series clearly recall this installment, which served as a summary of Aang and his companions' adventure leading up to the conclusion. Different from other recap episodes, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" wasn't motivated by budget restrictions or creative challenges. The creators genuinely intended to give fans an opportunity to reflect on the show's narrative, but they decided to execute it with flair.

Throughout the segment, the main characters watches a theatrical performance inspired by their adventures in a theater located on Ember Island, called The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is inaccurate, over-the-top, and overall hilarious. It succeeds since it plays with the heroes' understanding regarding their own identities, contrasting them with how the world (and notably the antagonist nation) perceives them. It contains an ideal level of introspective humor, and it ends up perhaps the best adaptation of the show we have had.

Worth and cost

Regarding worth, this represents an excellent Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This particular card is valued between $20 and $40 through card retailers currently, while for $29.99 you can acquire the complete collection, or for $39.99 for the foil version.
